Make Getting in Shape part of your weekly plan!


Now that Summer is behind us we have the opportunity to enjoy some milder temperatures in most of North America! Get outside and play while the weather is nice. Pick up your fitness program or turn it up a notch if you can. Make some time for yourself each day and be selfish. Don't let any distractions interfere with your exercise time. Schedule it. Write it down in your planner and stick to it!

A few simple changes in your daily routine will bring great rewards! Make small, manageable changes in your daily diet and exercise habits. Realistic changes that you can do. Don’t over do it or try to reach for an unrealistic goal. Take it easy and enjoy the journey! Do what you truly know you can do, like walking 20 minutes every day at lunch, or even three days a week.

Make it a habit to include more vegetables and fruits in your daily diet. Cut back on refined sugars, soda and junk food. Small changes practiced daily will lead to big results! Pretty soon you won't even miss those morning donuts! Candy bars won't look quite so tasty!

If you slip and miss a day or cheat a little, don't give up. Simply decide to do better tomorrow and the next day. At the end of a week, or a month, measure your progress. Revisit your plan and make changes to help facilitate your success.

Action is a key to your success. Take whatever action you can today! And then again tomorrow. Make it a habit! You'll start seeing results in no time! As we age we tend to gain wisdom and a generally better perspective on life’s many twists and turns. Many develop a more realistic, lowering of expectations, and a tendency to be more easily content with what they have.

I may not hit 120 mph serves while playing tennis anymore. And, I still love playing. Aging doesn’t mean we have to give up activities we love.

Vow to make your first thought of the day a positive one. Many people get a certain peace of mind through early morning prayer. Join the countless millions who enjoy a little early morning exercise. Try to read something positive like some inspirational quotes or affirmations to start your day off right.



Try new things. It will help keep your mind sharp. Focus on today. Don’t look back—stay in the creative mind. Regret is such a destructive and useless emotion. Try to avoid it. If your life isn’t how you imagined it would be, forgive yourself, embrace the lessons you’ve learned from your mistakes and then move forward! Have fun getting in shape!


As Summer winds into her last few weeks there is still time to start getting in shape fast and take advantage of the warmer weather. Burning more calories and sweating off those extra pounds is easier in the warmer evening temperatures! If you're like me you might prefer getting out early before the sun comes up and starting the day with an invigorating, quick paced walk!

Starting your day with exercise seems to give you an energy boost that lasts well after noon! Following up with a healthy breakfast powers you up for a productive day!

Why not take advantage of these last few weeks of Summer and invite some friends over for an evening of healthy treats and plenty of outdoor fun. Or, save on the clean-up and meet them at a local park. Toss the Frisbee. Play tennis. Walk around the park - several times if you can. Or bring your bikes or skates.

There is still plenty of time to play nine holes of golf after work. Many public courses have a special rate after 5:30 in the evening. Make your fitness quest fun! Enjoy the journey - and a much healthier lifestyle!

Make some time for you and your family and loved ones. Getting in shape can be a fun adventure. Write down some time in your planner - every day - for healthy pursuits. And make sure you keep your food choices healthy too!

The Quickest Way to Lose Weight - Change Your Habits


I wish the quickest way to lose weight was as easy as the TV commercials make it out to be. The good news is that we can enjoy ourselves and have lots of fun while we exercise and lose weight fast! Enjoy a variety of sports and exercise routines and you'll be on the road to getting in shape fast!

A few very basic fundamentals lead to natural, and lasting weight loss. And to a much healthier life! The key is simple - make your healthy choices a habit! Make a habit of exercise. And the same for healthy eating. Where we are today is the result of the choices we've made. My choosing to enjoy too many donuts and sugary snacks has resulted in the overweight, pot-bellied body I sometimes can't believe I've developed.

The choice is totally up to each of us. We can choose to adopt healthier habits. We can choose to have more fun playing sports we enjoy! Have more enjoy as a result of our daily exercise time. To look better and feel more energized. To enjoy much better health while adopting a healthy eating habit.

Today is a great day to start getting healthy and enjoying the rest of your life. Make a couple, very basic changes in your daily routine. Get some exercise time in each day. Skip the soda. Try some green tea instead! Pass on the fat-food and enjoy some natural foods. Eat more raw vegetables.

Have at least two pieces of fruit every day. Grab a bag of walnuts and snack on a few! They have a healthy fats and some say they're good for the brain as well! Toss some fresh blueberries in a cup of low-fat yogurt. Add some flax seed to a healthy shake!

Then get up and get some exercise. Pass on the morning news and join your children for a nice walk around the block. Take your dog jogging! Grab some tennis rackets and head out for the tennis courts and an hour of pure fun!

The best way to lose belly fat


Too many sugary snacks, way too much soda and candy can only lead to one result - a larger belly! So, I've done some research into how to shed these few ( ok - quite a few ) extra pounds I've managed to add over the last decade.

The best way to lose belly fat involves a twofold approach. Exercise and eating healthy! Simple habits. Habits I've somewhere, somehow lost over the last decade or so. What happened to the eighties when we could sleep all day and party all night and never have to worry about gaining weight?

So, Ill try to maintain a positive outlook and embark upon the next great journey - losing that incredibly ugly belly fat I've mysteriously gathered! Here is a bit of what I've read and learned.

Studies also show that optimists live longer, more satisfying lives. So if you’re not an optimist, learn to be one. Make your first thought of the day positive, and read inspirational affirmations to start your day. Many people enjoy starting their day with some scripture.
Try new sports. Change your workout routine from time to time. It will keep your mind sharp and prevent you from getting bored. Be patient and forgiving. Results will come if you stick to your exercise routine and enjoy a diet of healthy eating! Don’t look back – focus on what you can do today! Keep your mind fixed on the goal(s) you’ve set.The best way to lose belly fat is really very simple. Stick to the basics - daily exercise and healthy eating!

Summer Fun - at every age


We hung out at the local park. One of our favorite girlfriends called us the Park Boys. All we cared about that wonderful summer was having fun.

On our skateboards. On the tennis courts or basketball court. Or, at the pool. And then at night - it was usually more of the same after a big barbecue and lots of beer. We had fun. And we met lots of really cool girls. Very cool!

The friendships you develop while you're playing sports seem to last longer. And having fun is always a snap - just pick your pleasure for the moment and go for it. As we age we sometimes lose track of those friends we enjoyed so much. And, we usually - more often than not - count them as friends long after we last saw each other!

Playing sports and exercising seems to bring out the best in people. Fitness and Health experts seem to agree. The benefits of exercise and physical activity are plentiful -

To get your muscles warm and loose for strength training, walk for five to ten minutes outside if weather permits, or inside around the house or on a treadmill if you have one. Walking will help direct needed blood flow to your muscles and prepare your body for exercise. Warming up is important for preventing injury as well as gaining maximal benefit from the exercise, because loose, warm muscles will respond better to the challenge of lifting weights.

If you have another piece of aerobic exercise equipment available to you, such as a bike, rowing machine, or stair stepper, this will serve as an adequate warm up as well.

Start simple. Here is an easy, and effective exercise to help you get started!

Squats are a great exercise for strengthening hips, thighs, and buttocks. Before long, you'll find that walking, jogging, and climbing stairs are a snap!

1. In front of a sturdy, armless chair, stand with feet slightly more than shoulder-width apart. Extend your arms out so they are parallel to the ground and lean forward a little at the hips.
2. Making sure that your knees NEVER come forward past your toes, lower yourself in a slow, controlled motion, to a count of four, until you reach a near-sitting position.
3. Pause. Then, to a count of two, slowly rise back up to a standing position. Keep your knees over your ankles and your back straight.
4. Repeat 10 times for one set. Rest for one to two minutes. Then complete a second set of 10 repetitions.

Note 1: If this exercise is too difficult, start off by using your hands for assistance. If you are unable to go all the way down, place a couple of pillows on the chair or only squat down four to six inches.

Note 2: Placing your weight more on your heels than on the balls or toes of your feet can help keep your knees from moving forward past your toes. It will also help to use the muscles of your hips more during the rise to a standing position.

Make sure you:

* Don't sit down too quickly.
* Don't lean your weight too far forward or onto your toes when standing up.
