Getting in shape fast helps you lose stomach fat!

The best way to lose belly fat is exercise. Combined with a healthy eating plan, exercise will help you burn more calories and start losing some of that stomach fat we all dread! The more you exercise - the more you stand to lose!

The longer you move aerobically, the more energy needed and the more calories used. Regular aerobic exercise will improve your cardiorespiratory endurance, the ability of your heart, lungs, blood vessels and associated tissues to use oxygen to produce energy needed for activity. You'll build a healthier body while getting rid of excess body fat.

In addition to the aerobic exercise, supplement your program with muscle strengthening and stretching exercises. The stronger your muscles, the longer you will be able to keep going during aerobic activity, and the less chance of injury.

How Much? How Often?

Experts recommend that you do some form of aerobic exercise at least three times a week for a minimum of 20 continuous minutes. Of course, if that is too much, start with a shorter time span and gradually build up to the minimum. Then gradually progress until you are able to work aerobically for 20-40 minutes. If you need to lose a large amount of weight, you may want to do your aerobic workout five times a week.

It is important to exercise at an intensity vigorous enough to cause your heart rate and breathing to increase. How hard you should exercise depends to a certain degree on your age, and is determined by measuring your heart rate in beats per minute.

The heart rate you should maintain is called your target heart rate, and there are several ways you can arrive at this figure. The simplest is to subtract your age from 220 and then calculate 60 to 80 percent of that figure. Beginners should maintain the 60 percent level, more advanced can work up to the 80 percent level.

Start working out today. The best way to get rid of belly fat is to get plenty of exercise! Daily exercise will get you on the road to getting in shape fast.

Eating healthy fuels your workout

Health and fitness experts agree that what you eat and drink can significantly
impact health and exercise performance. You need to make sure you consume enough energy to maintain a healthy body weight for your activity level and sport. Healthy eating also reduces the risk of chronic disease. Active individuals need more carbohydrate and protein than sedentary individuals, and should not restrict fat intake too severely. Keeping well-hydrated and replacing fluids lost during exercise is also a key part of feeling good and performing at your best.

In order to remain physical active while dieting, your diet needs to provide adequate carbohydrate for glycogen replacement and enough protein for the maintenance and repair of lean tissue.

Compared to your less active counterparts, your diet requires additional fluid to cover sweat losses, energy to fuel physical activity, protein for building and repair of muscle tissue, and carbohydrate for the replacement of muscle glycogen. In some cases the need for other nutrients also increases (e.g., B-complex, antioxidant vitamins, iron). As more energy is consumed to cover the cost of exercise, your intake of these other nutrients needs to increase.

As your energy requirements increase, your goal should be to consume nutrient-dense carbohydrate-based food groups (e.g., whole grain breads and cereals, vegetables, and fruits) and lean protein sources (e.g., lean meats, fish, poultry, dairy, legumes). Your aim should be to increase energy intake to maintain weight using nutrient-dense foods that will also provide vitamins and minerals, instead of meeting additional energy needs with high-fat and sugar foods.

Timing of your meals is also important. Eating sensibly before you exercise assures that there is enough energy to fuel your workout, while eating after exercise will help refuel the body. A healthy post-exercise meal helps you replace muscle glycogen and repair muscle tissue damage.

Keep eating healthy and you'll have the energy you need to exercise and start getting in shape fast.

Healthy aging

America is aging rapidly. At the start of the prior century persons over sixty five years of age constituted approximately four percent of the American population. In 2008 they now represent more than 12 percent of all Americans. By the year 2020 this group is expected to increase to nearly twenty percent of the population (U.S. Census Bureau, 1990). When expressed in absolute number, the statistics are equally impressive, in the United States today there are currently approximately 36 million people over the age of 65. This number is expected to almost double to 70 million by the year 2030 (Geographic Profile, 1993). Even more remarkable is the increase in the number of the very oldest members of our society. The "old-old", that is, individuals over the age of 85 years, constitute the most rapidly growing segment of society (Shephard, 1997). By the year 2030, it is anticipated that over eight million Americans will be 85 years of age or older.

Both the American College of Sports Medicine and the Surgeon General' Report on Physical Activity and Health recommend that muscle strengthening exercises be included as part of the exercise training regimen for older adults. There are plenty of exercises for seniors to keep your body fit and healthy well into your 80s!

Start today! The longer you delay, the more you will wish you had started earlier!
Start exercising, building muscles, and getting in shape fast! You'll thank yourself! And so will your spouse!

Stretching is important in building muscles

Stretching, plays a vital role in keeping muscles and joints strong and pliable. Stretch helps in making our muscles less susceptible to injury. That is why it is such a critical part of warming up before exercise and physical activity and cooling down after.

Spending a few minutes a day performing a series of slow, deliberate stretches can also help you manage stress more effectively. It gives you a chance to momentarily shut off outside stressors, and focus, physically and mentally, on your activity. Many find Yoga helpful in reducing stress and improving overall health.

Check your local library, Amazon, or your favorite bookstore for books on yoga and stretching. A good routine should work each of the major muscle groups, and neednt take long. Five to 10 minutes is all you need. Keep the following tips in mind while you stretch before and after working out:

* Warm up before stretching: warm muscles, tendons, and ligaments are more flexible and stretch more easily; stretching cold muscles can cause tears.

* Stretches should always be gradual and gentle. Take your time. Enjoy the quiet and concentrate on your breathing and the muscles you’re stretching.

* Hold each stretch in a stable position for 10 to 20 seconds, allowing the muscle to lengthen slowly.

* Do not bounce; bouncing actually causes muscle fibers to shorten, not lengthen and can diminish the benefits of your stretching.

* Stretch only to the point of resistance; if the stretch starts to hurt, you’re over doing it. Don't push too hard.

* Don’t rush through the stretching routine; use it to prepare yourself mentally and physically for activity. And as a crucial part of your cool down. Savor the time taking care of your self. Mentally celebrate your success.

Enjoy the moment. Focus on the muscles you are stretching. Concentrate on your breathing. Building muscles is an important part of getting rid of fat and getting in shape fast.

Take care of your muscles and practice a healthy stretching routine.
