Getting Started

No matter at what age you begin to exercise, or how long you may have been inactive, proper exercise will always improve your physical condition. It is important to begin any exercise program slowly and build up gradually. Remember, it may take several months ( or longer ) to reach your fitness goals. Depending on where you are today.

If weight loss is one of your goals - you can eat healthy, exercise and lose weight fast. Don't rush it though. Stick with a pace you feel comfortable with. Challenge yourself until you feel the need to back off! Enjoy the journey! And keep moving. The more frequently you exercise the quicker you'll see results!

Before beginning an exercise program, you might want to visit with a health care professional or even have a physical examination. If your mobility is limited as a result of a chronic or disabling condition, be sure to review your plans with your doctor. Keep in mind your level of ability and endurance so that you don't risk discomfort or injury. If you experience pain while exercising, stop that particular movement and ask your doctor about it on your next visit.

Stick with it, and you will see results!

Here's some tips to help get you going:

Warming Up

Preparing your body for exercise is important at any age and all fitness levels. A warm-up period should begin with slow, rhythmic activities such as walking or jogging in place.

Gradually increase the intensity until your pulse rate, respiration rate and body temperature are elevated, which is usually about the time that you break a light sweat. Do some easy stretching exercises before moving into the heart of your workout.

Once you begin your daily exercise routine, keep these points in mind to get the best results:

Always drink water before, during and after your exercise session.

Make exercising a part of your daily routine. You may want to set a regular time to exercise each day! Write it in your planner. Invite a friend to join you in the fun.

Start gradually, about 5 to 10 minutes at first. Gradually build upon your time and the intensity of your workouts! Increase the amount of exercise each day, up to about 30 to 60 minutes.

Breathe deeply and evenly during and between exercises. Never hold your breath.

Rest whenever you feel the need. Your body will let you know!

Keep a daily written record of your progress. Look back a few weeks and see how much you've progressed. You might amaze yourself!

Exercise to your favorite music or with friends for even more fun. Put a funny comedy in the DVD player and jump on your elliptical. You'll work off some pounds and have a blast!

Cool Down

If you have been participating in a vigorous workout or sport - you know the kind of workout that leaves you breathing fast - it is extremely important not to stop suddenly. Abrupt stopping interferes with the return of the blood to the heart and could even cause dizziness or fainting. Slow down and reduce the intensity of your exercise gradually.

Walk it off for a few minutes until your breathing returns to a more normal pace. Always end with a few slow stretches. Take your time and focus on your breathing and the muscles you are stretching.

You can have a better life. A healthier and happier life - full of more fun and energy! Start today! If you are wanting to lose some weight this year - the quickest way to lose weight is start getting in shape fast! Exercise most days and keep eating healthy foods. Soon you'll feel better and look better.

Common Sense Health

Building healthy muscles and preventing injuries requires both common sense and careful preparation. By following a few basic principles, you can help ensure that your activity wont put you in the Doctor's office!

* Warm Up: This is the number one principle of injury prevention, consisting of three to five minutes of walking or jogging slow followed by a few minutes of stretching.

* Stay Flexible: Stretching during the warm-up and cooldown phases will help prevent muscle pulls and strains, as well as the general aches and pains that can occur after exercising.

* Slow is Best - Build Gradually: Start out slowly and build up gradually in intensity and duration of activity. Weekend athletes are famous for trying to do too much, too soon. Don't fall into this trap.

* Be Prepared: Use the right equipment for your sport, whether its a good pair of running shoes, or knee pads for roller-blading. Be sure its in good condition and is appropriate for your skill level (e.g., skis for beginners vs. experts).

* Rehydrate your body: Water is the best sports drink and you should drink plenty of it before, during and after exercise especially in warm weather. Keep drinking it throughout the day.

* Avoid Extreme Temperatures: Try not to exercise outdoors in extreme hot or cold weather, but, if you do, be sure to dress properly. Use caution against heat exhaustion or, at the other extreme, frostbite.

* Cool Down: Gradually decrease the intensity of your exercise activity to restore a normal heart rate. Stretching after you exercise is a great way to keep your muscles flexible and healthy. Walk for a few minutes until your breathing returns to a more normal rate and then take five or ten minutes to do some slow, easy stretches.

If you've been inactive for a while - take your time and build your workouts gradually increasing your exercise time. If losing weight is one of your goals, the good news is you can eat healthy, exercise and lose weight fast! Start your journey to better health today! Have more fun, live longer and boost your self esteem leading a healthy lifestyle. Make fitness a life-long habit. Start getting in shape fast and enjoying life more!

Getting Rid of Belly Fat

It happened slowly. A gradual transformation was taking place. Most of us see the results of this - most often as it happens to others. Surely that won't happen to me I surmised.

And then it happened - I discontinued my morning walks. Jogging 20 miles a week was all too soon a distant memory. And going to the gym was just not in my schedule. Work, family and Church seemed to take up all of my time. "The children's needs are greater than my own", I thought.

And there it was - The PotBelly! Flab city. I'd seen this happen to others. My own Father had one. Lots of guys at the office weren't as skinny as when we started our careers.

Luckily there is hope - Anyone can start a good cardiovascular exercise program and burn that potbelly away. There are many natural and healthy ways to lose weight. The safest and certainly the fastest requires a two-fold approach. Eating healthy foods - in moderation - and lots of exercise are vital to healthy weight loss. Exercise is crucial to burn fat. Walking is excellent, especially if you pump it up a bit from your usual pace.

If you hit a plateau where you've been exercising for a while and the belly fat just wont seem to disappear - it's time to pick up the pace. And the volume. If you work out two days a week, try to go three or four. Or if you're walking for half an hour, increase it to 45 minutes or even longer if you can.

Alternating bursts of faster paced walking with periods of more moderate paced activity is an excellent way to torch off more fat. Walk for a few minutes. Then jog for a few. Repeat as many times as you comfortably can. This "interval" strategy will burn more calories (and more fat). If you are already jogging, jog then sprint to mix it up some.

Remember to stretch before and after your exercise. Stretching helps develop healthier, more flexible muscles! And get plenty of rest. Your body needs rest to recover and help you get after it again! Shoot for at least seven hours of sleep every night.

Picking up the intensity of your workout for brief bursts will burn more total calories and therefore get rid of more belly fat! You can have a slimmer waist! You can enjoy life more in a leaner, sexier body! The quickest way to lose weight is with plenty of exercise. Start today. Start getting in shape fast and get rid of that belly fat!

Get in Shape before Summer

Summer is only 3 short months away! Soon, Spring will bring warmer days and all the beauty nature so generously offers. Taking that lunch-time walk or run won't be so hard as the days get warmer. If you hope to start getting in better shape for Summer - now is the time to act! You can look ( and feel ) younger by the time June rolls around!

Decide to get in better shape. Determination, hard work, and persistence are what it takes for any exercise program to work. If you've been inactive for awhile - start with something simple. Daily walks are a great way to get your body back in the habit of burning calories. Go a little faster and a little longer each day!

At home, try some simple exercises like those we all learned back in middle school. Many fitness experts call the good old push-up the perfect exercise. Add some crunches and maybe some squats. Get a jump rope at the discount store. And use it! Those exercise balls are great for improving the effectiveness of your crunches. And they help your balance!

Spring means more time outdoors. Enjoy nature. Get a bike and find someone to ride with. Exercise is more fun when you share it with others! Pick up a new sport - maybe golf or tennis. Tennis can offer a great workout - and fun while you're burning off those winter calories! Turn off the TV and go for a walk. A fast walk. Buy a basketball and shoot some hoops over at the nearest schoolyard.

Any time is the perfect time for exercise! There is no perfect time of day that increases the effectiveness of your workout. The key is working out almost every day. Give yourself a day off after working out with weights. Your body needs rest to help build healthy muscles! Most fitness experts agree that four or five days a week of a good cardio workout is an excellent way to get in better shape. And stay in shape!

Find a time that works best for you! And guard it relentlessly! Write it down in your calendar! You can look great at the beach this year! You can look younger and have loads more energy! Start today! Start getting in shape fast!

Ignite your Workout and Start Getting in Shape Fast!

Picking up the pace of your aerobic exercise helps you burn more calories in less time.

Pick any cardio exercise you enjoy - like running, swimming, or even walking. After warming up for a few minutes, pick up the pace for 30 seconds or so. Go as fast as you can safely handle. Then, slow back down to a more moderate, easier pace for a couple minutes. Once you feel like your breathing has returned to a more normal rate - kick it into high gear again for a half a minute. Then slow it down again until you catch your breath.

Repeat this series eight times. You'll ignite your workout and burn more calories in less time! Picking up the pace earlier in your run kick starts your calorie burner! Your metabolism will stay higher longer and you'll burn calories long after you end your workout!

Vary your workouts. Keep it fun. Try some simple calisthenics like we all learned in middle school. Millions of healthy fitness buffs still include the old standard push-up in their workouts. And squats. Simple and effective.

Try new sports - These cold days of Winter are perfect for some indoor basketball or tennis. Jump-start your preparations for those Summer leagues! When spring arrives get outside and enjoy nature while you walk or run. Gardening even helps some people burn off some calories and reduce their stress level. The key is fun - make your workouts fun!

If you've been inactive for a while - take your time getting into this regimen. Pick up the pace for only as long as you safely can. Gradually build your endurance and your intensity!

If weight loss is one of your goals - the quickest way to lose weight is with exercise. Lots of exercise combined with healthy eating choices will help you lose those extra pounds and feel way better about yourself!

Start getting in shape fast. Give your workouts that extra boost. Pick up the pace a few times for 30 seconds or so next time you go for a jog and burn more calories for hours after your run.

Planning ahead will help you get around interruptions in your workout schedule, such as bad weather and vacations.

4. Vary your exercise program. Change exercises or invite friends to join you to make your workout more enjoyable. There is no “best” exercise – just the one that works best for you. It won’t be easy, especially at the start. But as you begin to feel better, look better and enjoy a new zest for life, you will be rewarded many times over for your efforts.

So start your journey to better fitness - exercise a little every day! Or at least five days a week! Start getting in shape fast and having more fun! Enjoy your workout time - go with a friend or watch a comedy while you’re burning off those calories in the comfort of your own home!

The Best Way to Start

We all have to start somewhere! The simplest steps can eventually lead to great results. Start getting in shape fast by taking a walk. Yes, a nice, peaceful, energizing walk. Burn some calories and let your mind wander. Catch up on your thoughts while you enjoy nature and start your journey to a younger looking, healthier body!

Go for a walk. It’s that easy to reap the benefits of moderate endurance
exercise. Each time you exercise, simply walk a little farther. As the weeks pass, gradually increase the pace, or speed, of your walks. Vary your pace. After a few minutes - try walking as fast as you can for two minutes. Then, return to a normal brisk pace. You kickstart your metabolism when you pick up the pace like that.

Every two weeks, increase the duration of your workout by five minutes. Also, add five minutes of total-body stretches to the beginning and end of your workouts (for a total of 10 minutes of stretching). Improving your flexibility makes your workouts easier over time.

After exercising moderately for a month, add a five-minute vigorous workout three days a week. For example, if you’re walking, speed up to a fast walk or slow jog for a total of five minutes, on three of the days you work out. After two weeks, increase the higher intensity portion of the workout to 10 minutes. Two weeks later, increase it to 15 minutes of vigorous exercise, and then two weeks later do 20 minutes of vigorous activity, three to four days a week. This is a healthy activity that will help you reduce your chance of illness and find more pleasure and vigor in your life.

If you can’t walk for 30 minutes at one time, take 5-, 10-, or 15-minute walks
throughout the day. It all adds up to better health. Start today - Exercise is the quickest way to lose weight!

You’re probably already walking more than you think. And by taking advantage of opportunities all around you to walk more every day, you’ll be surprised at how quickly the steps add up! Walk up the stairs instead of riding the escalator at the mall; take an after dinner walk with your family; choose the farthest spot in the lot at work; eat lunch outdoors instead of at your desk and walk around the block after you eat.

Walking 30 minutes or more a day at a brisk pace is an excellent start to better health and fitness! You can look younger and feel younger. You can have more energy and a better outlook on life. Start getting in shape fast and watch your whole life get better!

Save your knees - try low impact exercise. Jogging is great - I was able to lose over 25 pounds in just a couple months with jogging as a part of my fitness plan. And I was lucky enough to have a big indoor fitness center to run in during the cold months. A nice soft floor made running a whole lot easier on my joints. Then Spring came and it was time to run outside - in the park. Very little concrete - mostly a well-worn trail around the park.

Even running outside - on the good earth - had its potential drawbacks. I can’t count the time I landed in the smallest little crevice or divot and felt the unexpected twinge of pain when my ankle went into an unnatural twist.

Many health enthusiasts find low-impact exercise to be a real blessing - and much easier on the ankles and knees! Walking, swimming, rowing, and plenty of calorie burning low impact exercise options are available!

Walking is great fun any time of the year. If you don’t mind spending a little extra time to burn off those extra calories, walking is a great for getting rid of fat. A good brisk walk can help ease your stress and the tensions of the day! Get outside - if you can - and enjoy a nice brisk walk. The benefits are tremendous and you’ll come to enjoy your regular walks.

Swimming is another great low impact exercise. And many people enjoy water aerobics programs offered by the YMCA. Exercise in water means way less stress on your joints. And it can be a quite refreshing workout. Check into a water aerobics class and you can enjoy a whole new way of getting in shape!

So keep active, walk as often and as far as you can. If your knees are still healthy - running is still the most efficient fat burner. You’ll burn lots more calories - in less time. Watch your waistline shrink. Watch your belly fat disappear! You’ll be on the road to getting in shape fast!

Stay on Track - Keep Getting in Shape

Just because the weather is lousy and you might dread even the thought of getting outside for your daily walk or run - Never Fear! You can stay indoors and get your heart rate pumping. You can get some great cardio in without even leaving the house.

Do you have a jump rope? Jumping rope is great for your heart and lungs. And your legs and abs. It helps your sense of balance.

Remember the good old jumping jacks we all were forced to do in Middle School P.E?
They are a great way to get your heart pumping! And help you burn more calories for hours to come!

Who says you need an expensive gym membership to start getting in shape? You can workout right in the comfort of your own home. Without driving to the gym. Or braving the cold.

Walking or jogging in place - bring those knees up high - will kick-start your heart and help you get that daily exercise.

Don't forget to keep eating healthy during these frigid winter months. And do whatever you can to get your heart pumping and lungs working harder! If you are wanting to drop a few pounds this year - the quickest way to lose weight is with daily exercise. And healthy eating.

Start getting in shape fast and you'll be on the road to better health and a longer happier life!

Winter Workout Woes

The weather outside is splendid - if you're a polar bear. Or happen to love playing Hockey on a pond or an outdoor rink. I love all four seasons. Winter is really great for all the indoor activities we so enjoy. Cooking and enjoy good company in a nice warm home make winter a special time of year.

Getting outside and enjoying nature can pose a challenge when the wind-chill is at single digits or lower! The daily jog is refreshing indeed. If you're like me you might find it way easier to get some exercise indoors on these freezing cold winter days. Isn't it so much nicer to flip on the DVD player and enjoy a favorite comedy while you burn away those holiday calories?

Many of us face the challenge of moving our running and exercise time indoors from November to April. Joining a gym or health club is one option. Growing numbers of avid health enthusiasts are opting to put low impact exercise equipment right in their homes. They are avoiding the expense of that health club membership. No more waiting to get on your favorite rowing machine. Or that treadmill with the clear view of the TV screen.

If you’re like me you might prefer working out before the rest of the family wakes up. Those early morning sessions on the TreadClimber are an excellent way to get your heart pumping and burn off a ton of calories! All before you even step outside!

Enjoy a nice warm cup of your favorite coffee or tea and then hit the rowing machine for 15 minutes. Jump rope or work out with your exercise ball for a few minutes. They say that ab exercises done on the ball are more effective!

The possibilities are practically endless. And you don't even have to brave the cold. Make this your best year ever and invest in some simple low impact exercise equipment. You can easily turn that unused corner of your basement into your very own fitness center!

Health experts agree – the quickest way to lose weight – and keep it off – is with daily exercise and healthy eating. Start getting in shape fast and enjoy the benefits of a healthier, sexier body!

Choose Better Health

The Holidays are such a wonderful time of the year! So good, in fact, that many of us celebrate with food. Lots of good, rich food. Tastes great. And some of our favorite have very little nutritional value. Along with a more sedentary lifestyle of sitting behind that desk and far too little time exercising, the pounds just seem to pile on.

Luckily there are natural and healthy ways to lose weight fast! Getting in shape fast is a goal one can reasonably expect to reach. Just how fast is entirely up to me! I get to make the choice to eat more sensibly, exercise and lose weight fast. I don't expect to lose this pot belly in a month. But two or three months is certainly a realistic target.

How much exercise is needed to make a difference in your weight depends on the amount and type of activity, and on how much you eat. Aerobic exercise burns body fat. A medium-sized adult would have to walk more than 30 miles to burn up 3,500 calories, the equivalent of one pound of fat. Although that may seem like a lot, you don’t have to walk the 30 miles all at once. Walking a mile a day for 30 days will achieve the same result. I think I'll strive for three to five miles each day! And get in some weight training to start building muscles.

If you consume 100 calories a day more than your body needs, you will gain approximately 10 pounds in a year. You could take that weight off, or keep it off, by doing 30 minutes of moderate exercise daily. The experts concur - the combination of exercise and healthy eating is the surest way to start getting in shape fast.

The choice is yours. Choose to adopt healthier habits. Choose to have more fun playing sports you enjoy! Choose to schedule some time each day for exercise. Be a little selfish - and guard your daily exercise time. You can choose to look better and feel more energized. To enjoy the many benefits of better health - eating healthy foods and getting in shape!
